I bought one of those expensive, figure-eight, specially designed nursing bras (that only seem to come in beige). Ugh! Did not work. It felt bulky, with not nearly enough support, add in a leak protection pad and my breasts suddenly looked clumpy (like I was back in junior high stuffing my bra).
With a sports bra, I found better comfort, style and ease of use. (I waited for a sale at the Gap, got 2 for 1 in pink, black…then went back for white, green, blue and nude). I was lucky to start my nursing in the summer, so I could wear tank tops that provided easy access. I’d slip off a strap and lift the bra and voila – mostly discreet and most importantly, ready access.
There is always a need for better nursing bra options. A midwife actually told me I could make a bra out of a giant pair of cotton knickers! Needless to say I went with the commercially available variety – in beige. I’m afraid the sports bra doesn’t work for my big bosoms.

The big bosoms part is a great point…I went from a pre-pregnancy A/B to a C so the sports bra did the trick. I wonder what has worked well for C+?

I have had success with stretchy sports bras too. Thankfully there are a lot of new companies getting hip to the fact that moms want an *attractive*, comfortable nursing bra.
